I did rather well after writing my first book. Then once I'd sold my book to all of my friends and family, I found myself in a bit of a slump. My sales were slowing down and I had to figure out what to do next.  At first, I hired a social media strategist. That went well. She created social media posts for me and that helped my awareness. Next, I had to find my footing in the author's arena.


I did interview after interview, guest blog posts, Facebook like swaps, Amazon author page like swaps, and anything else I could think of that would help me gain exposure among new groups of readers. However, I found that while these things supplemented my brand awareness campaign and slowly helped sales, nothing beat social media marketing. This piqued my interest and I delved in to digital marketing a bit deeper. I went on to get a Master's degree in Media Management to supplement my efforts.


I learned the importance of Facebook targeting in order to gain successful ad results, the importance of the images I was using in my social media posts and the desire of my audience. Understanding these topics led me to conduct a brand audit of the Mafietta brand and create new posts that mirrored my best performing ones and I was able to create a bit of a trend. I repeated that winning strategy on my next book release and the ones that followed.


Now my husband and I have both taken our proven methods and created a digital consulting agency to assist other small business owners who need a bit of help understanding how to use social media marketing to help the improve their business.
